Workshop on International Humanitarian Law begins
A two-day workshop on 'International Humanitarian Law', jointly organised by Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) and International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), began at a city hotel yesterday, says a press release. Inaugurating the workshop, BIPSS President Maj Gen ANM Muniruzzaman hoped that the workshop will help the young professionals drawn from different agencies, both civil and military, understand the application of International Humanitarian Law for the resolution of international and regional conflicts and mitigation of human miseries. Speaking on the occasion, Finn Ruda, head of Mission of ICRC in Dhaka, focused on two mandates, Geneva Convention and Movement Statutes, as the guiding principles of ICRC. The ICRC has been playing a monitoring and catalytic role in alleviating human suffering, he added. Around 40 delegates from the government and military organisations, universities and NGOs are participating in the workshop. Attorney General Barrister Fida M Kamal will attend the concluding session of the workshop as the chief guest.
