In the backdrop of rising spectre of terrorism and extremism in South Asia, the hospitality and utility industry in Bangladesh is clearly in the terrorist’s crosshairs, the projected vulnerability of which is indeed very high. In this regard, BIPSS hosted an international training seminar on “HOSPITALITY AND UTILITY INDUSTRY SECURITY IN BANGLADESH” on the 28th of June 2010 at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.

Dr John Harrison, a renowned security expert who currently is the Head of Terrorism Research at the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore  offered an extensive training package.

The training seminar was intended to bolster the counter-terrorism capacity of the relevant stakeholders in the hospitality and utility industry.

As Crisis Information Management Systems (CIMS) is a new concept now entering the vocabulary of the emergency and disaster sector which aims to provide a complete suite of ICT functions addressing the many requirements from the emergency management community, BIPSS organised International Seminar on Crisis Information Management on 29th of June 2010 at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.

Dr. Sayed Mahmud Ali who as a journalist spent the last twenty-three years with the BBC World Service in London presented the key note paper.

In the present context it is important to define and exploit greater ICT utilisation during the response and recovery phases of major incidents.
