
Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) held a roundtable on “Countering the Financing of Terrorism - Challenges and the Way Forward “on the 4th of October 2010, at 3.30-5.30 pm, at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel. The round table provided a discussion on the countering the financing of terrorism.
Dr. Arabinda Acharya made the key note presentation at the round table. Dr. Acharya is a Research Fellow and Head of Strategic Projects at the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research in S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The round table attended by subject experts and relevant stakeholders.
Money laundering and terrorist financing have become very commonly used concepts all over the world today. These problems spread very hastily if the counter measures are not taken in time. The relevant authority must be conscious about the rules and regulations, laws and amendments and all other relevant factors to counter the financing of terrorism. The roundtable provided for a discussion on common sources and consequences of the financing of terrorism. The challenges toward countering the financing of terrorism and the way forward to it was also discussed on the round table.
