President BIPSS Major General Muniruzzaman (Retd) recently spoke at the National Defence University, Islamabad at the invitation of the President, NDU. He delivered a lecture on Climate Security and its impact on national and regional stability. The lecture was attended by members of the armed forces and senior members of different ministries of the government and 45 allied participants from all over the world.
President BIPSS also briefed them on the role and function of the Global Military Advisory Council on Climate Change (GMACCC). General Muniruzzaman is the current chair of GMACCC. During his visit he also spoke at a seminar on Climate Change and Global Security organised by Henrik Bol Stiftung of Germany.
Mr. Ashok Nath, FRGS Visiting Senior Research Fellow at BIPSS has published a new book titled 'Sowars and Sepoys in the Great War 1914-1918'. The book was launched by H.E. Johan Frissel the Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh on 09 December 2014. This new title bridges an important gap in the historiography of the British Indian empire during the Great War. Focusing on the Cavalry and Infantry regiments of the British Indian Army Sowars and Sepoys records their war services, battle honours and ethnic composition as well as a detailed record of the regimental iconography. This book is undoubtedly a significant contribution in enhancing our understanding of the contribution of British India in that global conflict.
President, BIPSS was invited by Xiangshan Forum to speak at a conference held in Beijing from November 20, 2014. Xiangshan Forum is the highest level security policy conference in China and is being attended by Defence Ministers, Chiefs of Defence Forces and security experts from different countries of the world. It may be mentioned that President, BIPSS presented a paper in the forum on "The Emerging Security Architecture in the Asia-Pacific Region"
BIPSS delegations led by President, BIPSS, Major General Muniruzzaman (Retd.) have visited India from November 10, 2014. During this visit the delegation were holding events with a number of partner think tanks in New Delhi. The events were held at Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), Observer Research Foundation (ORF), National Maritime Foundation, Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS), School of International Studies- Jawaharlal Nehru University among others. General Muniruzzaman (Retd.) had also presented a paper at a conference on Indian Ocean Security at the United Service Institution of India. BIPSS continues to engage with a number of leading think tanks in the South Asia region.

Ms. Eva Haggstrom Frissel, Deputy Research Director, FOI accompanied by Mr. Ashok Nath, Visiting Senior Fellow, BIPSS visited BIPSS on November 9, 2014. They discussed with President, BIPSS about matters of mutual interest.
President, BIPSS, Major General Muniruzzaman (Retd.) led a 5 member delegation to China at the invitation of the Chinese Government from October 26, 2014. The delegation focused on regional co-operation with particular attention to BCIM (Bangladesh, China, India, Myanmar). The delegation interacted with Government officials, academics and civil society members. There was also a special roundtable session with Yunan Academy of Social Sciences.
President BIPSS delivered Keynote Speech at an International Conference on 'Conflict and Environment’ in Stockholm, Sweden
President, BIPSS Major General Muniruzzaman [Retd] has been invited to deliver the keynote speech at an international conference on 'Conflict and Environment'. The conference organised by the Swedish Defense Research Agency (FOI) was held in Stockholm, Sweden from 15-16 October, 2014. His speech covered various aspects of environmental issues related to stability operations and crisis management. General Muniruzzman is the current chair of the Global Military Advisory Council on Climate Change During this visit he spoke at other leading think tanks in Sweden.
