President BIPSS, Major General A N M Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc (Retd) attended the conference on ‘Proportionate Response to the Risk of Climate Change’ at the invitation of Sir David King, United Kingdom (UK) Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative on Climate Change, organized by UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The conference held at the Lancaster house in London brought together senior policy makers and experts on the subject. General Muniruzzaman also spoke at the conference on “The Role of Leadership in Climate Change Management”, the session was chaired by Rt Hon Baroness Anelay, Minister of state, UK foreign and Commonwealth Office.
On 10 April, BIPSS delegation attended a dialogue on maritime issues with the the National Maritime Foundation [NMF] in New Delhi. NMF is India's premier think tank on naval and maritime affairs. BIPSS has had a longstanding collaboration with NMF since its inception. The dialogue at NMF was focused on maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region. The event was moderated by Dr. Vijay Sakhuja Director, NMF and was attended by Executive Director Captain Gurpreet Khurana and other NMF scholars. BIPSS continues to engage maritime think tanks in the region in beyond as part of its work on Indian Ocean Security.
On 09 April, BIPSS delegation spoke at a roundtable organised by the South Asia Centre at the Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses, India's premier security and foreign policy think tank. The roundtable was moderated by Brigadier Rumel Dahiya [Retd] Deputy Director General of IDSA. The roundtable focused on issues related to Indo-Bangladesh Relations and the Threat of Terrorism and Extremism in the region. The event was attended by scholars from IDSA, senior serving and retired officials of the Government of India, representatives of the international community in New Delhi and former ambassadors.
On 08 April, the delegation from BIPSS led by Major General Muniruzzaman [Retd]. spoke at a roundtable on issues related to Indo-Bangladesh relations organised by the Forum for Strategic Initiatives [FSI] held at the India International Centre in New Delhi. The roundtable was chaired by Chairman FSI and Former Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Lalit Man Singh. Major General Dipankar Banerjee [Retd], Member of the Board of Governors of the institute also spoke on the occasion. The event was attended by former ambassadors, senior serving and retired officials from the government and the military, strategic analysts, representatives of risk consultancies based in Delhi, academics and journalists.
FSI is a bipartisan policy think tank that focuses on foreign policy, strategic and security issues with a special focus on nuclear strategy. It also has unique expertise on macro regional studies.
A joint roundtable on Indo-Bangladesh Relations was organised by the Vivekananda International Foundation [VIF] and BIPSS in New Delhi, India on 07 April 2015. The session was chaired by Director VIF and former Chief of the Army Staff General N C Vij. The event was by attended staff from VIF, former ambassadors, senior civil and military officials and analysts. This is the second event held between BIPSS and VIF, the last roundtable was held in November 2014.
President BIPSS, Major General A N M Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc (Retd) led a two member delegation to the Strategic Studies Summit held in Antalya, Turkey last week. The theme of the summit this year was ‘Building Strategic Partnership’. The yearly summit is organized by Strategic Studies Network (SSN) of US National Defense University (NESA Centre) and it deliberates / works on current and emerging strategic challenges facing the world, specially the Near East And South Asia region. BIPSS is a member of Strategic Studies Network (SSN) and President BIPSS sits on The Board of Directors of SSN.
BIPSS hosted a roundtable on 'Myanmar in Transition: Current Developments and Implications for Bangladesh'
On Thursday 12 March 2015, BIPSS hosted a roundtable on 'Myanmar in Transition: Current Developments and Implications for Bangladesh'. Dr. Nicholas Farrelly from the Australian National University was the keynote speaker. Dr. Farrelly analyzed the ongoing shifts in the domestic political dyanmics in Myanmar and their likely impact on relations with Bangladesh. The roundtable was chaired by President, BIPSS Major General Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc (Retd).
