Asia Pacific Round Table-2009

23rd Asia Pacific Roundtable organised by the Institute of Strategic and International Studies, Malaysia. The roundtable brings together security analysts and experts from across the region.
 


Asia Security Summit- 2009

President, BIPSS attended the Asia Security Summit also known as the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore from 29-31 May 2009.


First Roundtable on Singapore-Bangladesh relations

BIPSS and Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS, Singapore) jointly organized first roundtable dialogue on Singapore-Bangladesh Relations on 25 May, 2009 in Singapore.

President BIPSS, Major General ANM Muniruzzaman (Retd.) delivered a lecture at the first Conference of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS-US) Transatlantic Dialogue on Climate Change and Security.
 


President BIPSS speaks at the World Social Science Forum (WSSF)

Major General ANM Muniruzzaman (Retd.) spoke at the World Social Science Forum (WSSF) in Bergen, Norway. This was a major International Conference in the field of Social Science, with a view to formulating strategies to counter social and political threats faced by nations.


Seminar on "South Asian Security Architecture: Security Challenges Facing South Asia in Oslo,Norway"

The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs [NUPI] has invited Major General Muniruzzaman, President, BIPSS to a morning seminar "South Asian Security Architecture: Security Challenges Facing South Asia".He spoke on the topics of terrorism and counter-terrorism, the role and rise of India and its place in South Asia, and the role of the Military in South Asia.
 


Round table on "Growing Terrorism in South Asia: Evolving Common Strategies" in New Delhi

Bangladesh Institute of Peace Security Studies (BIPSS) attended in a round table on "Growing Terrorism in South Asia: Evolving Common Strategies" on January 21, 2009 in New Delhi, organized by the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS). Delegation from BIPSS led by Major General ANM Muniruzzaman, NDC, PSC (Retd), who is presently its President.
 


International Conference on "Counter Terrorism Strategy for South Asia".

International conference titled "Counter Terrorism Strategy for South Asia" (CTS for SA), was held on 24 and 25 February 2009 at Radisson Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka, Organized by BIPSS. BIPSS has undertaken a regional research project in the field of Counter Terrorism Strategy (CTS).
 


BIPSS-ICRC International Seminar on 'Humanitarian Intervention in Fragile States'

Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) in collaboration with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) organized an International Seminar on Humanitarian Intervention in Fragile States.Resource persons from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka presented their papers on the occasion and focused various issues on fragile states.
 


BIPSS -ICRC Workshop on International Humanitarian Law (IHL)

BIPSS - ICRC jointly organized a three day workshop on International Humanitarian Law (IHL). Resource persons for the workshop were drawn from ICRC Geneva and expert community in Bangladesh. It focused on the major and critical issues of IHL. This was a certificate awarding workshop.

BIPSS Presedint in the seminar "Bangladesh at the crossroads: Democracy, radicalisation and terrorism amidst the emerging security challenges of South Asia" at House of Commons in London.
 


Lecture Programme on "Trends in Asian Terrorism" by Rohan Gunaratna

Dr. Rohan Gunaratna, Head, International Center for Political Violence and Terrorism Research of S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore is presenting a keynote paper on "Trends in Asian Terrorism" at a local hotel in Dhaka. Held under the auspices of Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS), the function was chaired by BIPSS President Major General ANM Moniruzzaman, ndc, psc.


Discussion Meeting in London - Major General Muniruzzaman to Speak

Discussion Meeting organized by International Institute for Strategic Studies in London.BIPSS President spoke on "Bangladesh elections & Prospects". The meeting chaired by Rahul Roy-Choudhury, Senior Fellow for South Asia.
 


International Workshop on Countering The Financing of Terrorism

The International Workshop on Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), organized by Bangladesh Centre for Terrorism Research (BCTR), a specialized organ of Bangladesh Institute of Peace and security Studies (BIPSS), in collaboration with International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR), Singapore and WORLD-CHECK, London, was held at Dhaka. This is the first workshop on this critical area of study in Bangladesh.
 


BIPSS organized a round table on "The Asia Pacific Region: Issues and Concerns"

Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) organized a roundtable discussion on "The Asia Pacific Region: Issues and Concerns". The roundtable was held on the 23rd August in the conference room of BIPSS. Discussion in the roundtable highlighted the current and emerging security issues of the Asia Pacific.
 


7th IISS Asia Security Summit commonly known as the Shangri-La Dialogue

BIPSS President Major General Muniruzzaman spoke at the 7th IISS Asia Security Summit commonly known as the Shangri-La Dialogue.He remarked that international naval exercises conducted recently in the Indian Ocean had aroused concern in China and other countries.


BIPSS-German Roundtable STRATEGIC CHANGE

Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies in collaboration with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh jointly organized a roundtable titled 'Strategic Change.' The roundtable held in the auditorium of the Goethe Institut Dhaka was attended by a large number of strategic experts, scholars, politicians, civil society members and the diplomatic community.

The President of Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) Major General Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc (Retd) visted Tokyo to attend the Board of Governors Meeting of the Council of Asian Terrorism Research (CATR). General Munir is a member of CATR Board of Governors (BOG).
 


United States Homeland Security Summit and Exposition in Hawaii

BIPSS President Major General ANM Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc, (Retd.) delivered lecture at the United States Homeland Security Summit and Exposition in Hawaii. BIPSS President was invited to the summit by the Governor of the State of Hawaii and The US department of Homeland Security. The President delivered his talks on "Scientific Research for Homeland Security: Fostering International Partnerships".
 


International conference in Singapore

BIPSS President Major General ANM Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc, (Retd.) was invited to deliver talk on asymmetrical security in an international conference in Singapore. The conference was hosted by National University of Singapore (NUS), in association with Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security (CEPS), Australian National University (ANU), Griffith University and International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU).
 


Round Table at Australian National University (ANU)

The President of Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS), Major General ANM Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc, (Retd.) delivered a talk at a roundtable held at the college of Asia and Pacific at Australian National University (ANU). He covered two themes in his delivery at two different segments. The first one was on peace building operations titled 'New Dimensions of Peace Operations" and the second segment was on the Emerging Security Architecture in South Asia.
 


Conference on "Anticipating Threats in a Connected World" in Canada

President of BIPSS Major General ANM Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc (Retd.) visited Vancouver, Canada to attend a conference that highlighted on the global security and emerging threats in current world.

BIPSS President Major General ANM Muniruzzaman visited Kuala Lumpur to attend the 22nd Asia Pacific Roundtable (APR) from 2-5 June, 2008. Asia Pacific Roundtable (APR) was a track two process that engaged prominent individuals from think tanks, academic, government, media and business communities. BIPSS President was also participated the CSCAP Steering Committee Meeting at Kula Lumpur.

BIPSS President Speaks at the Symposium of the Council for Asian Terrorism Research (CATR)

President of BIPSS, Major General ANM Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc (Retd.) who is a member of the Board of Governors (BOG) of the Council for Asian Terrorism Research (CATR) attended the CATR-Board of Governors meeting in Sydney, Australia. The major themes and focus of the conference were "The Landscape of Terrorism after Iraq, 2013" and "The Emerging Threat of Cyber Terrorism" followed by country presentations from the delegates. Active roundtable discussions took place on these issues and the summery of the discussions has come out in the conference declaration
 


CENS-GFF conference on "Radicalisation: Foresight and Warning" in Singapore

President of BIPSS, Major General ANM Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc presented a key note paper at the three days CENS-GFF conference on "Radicalisation: Foresight and Warning" held in Singapore. The President presented his key note paper on "Violent Radicalization: Case Study on Bangladesh".
 


International Conference on "SAARC: Towards Greater Connectivity" in New Delhi

Major General A.N.M Muniruzzaman, President, Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) attended a two days International Conference on "SAARC: Towards Greater Connectivity" from 15-16 January, 2008 at New Delhi. The conference was jointly organized by Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS), Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAF) and India International Centre (IIC).
 


South Asia Think Tanks Directors' Conference

BIPSS President attended a separate conference of heads of leading think tanks in South Asian countries. In the conference jointly organized by Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS) and Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAF), he gave a comprehensive briefing on the current issues in Bangladesh.
 


Conference on 'Bangladesh: Democracy at Crossroads' in Washington, D.C.

Mej. Gen. Muniruzzaman, President Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) spoke at the Heritage Foundation, Washington D.C. on current and emerging security issues of Bangladesh.The conference entitled 'Bangladesh: Democracy at Crossroads' held on September 28, 2007, was largely attended by policy planners in Washington, D.C. based think tanks, academics, Bangladeshi community and Bangladesh Embassy in Washington. The issue of Bangladesh drew keen interest from the floor.
