
The management of complex emergencies is increasingly becoming an important issue in current international affairs. It is characterized by extreme vulnerability due to intrastate conflicts and natural/manmade disasters which can considerably breakdown the authority/capacity of the state in those situations. In this backdrop, BIPSS will be organizing a two day International Conference on the Management of Complex Emergencies in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Swiss Embassy, Dhaka on December 13-14, 2010. The objective of the conference is to promote a better understanding of how to mitigate and respond to modern day complex emergencies. The conference will be the first of its nature in Bangladesh and will be attended by the subject based experts and practitioners from many countries including Bangladesh, Switzerland, India, Pakistan, China, Srilanka, Nepal, Indonesia, Myanmar, Afghanistan and others. The delegations will be comprised of representatives from the government agencies, armed forces, academics, NGOs, media and international organizations.
Who can participate?
The conference will take place with a view to promoting a better understanding of how to mitigate and respond to modern day complex emergency. The conference encourages people from the relevant stakeholders who have a stake and can contribute to handle and manage such situation. The conference is ideal for participation by persons at mid to senior level from government agencies, armed forces, academics, NGOs, media and international organizations.
Conference Participation
The conference is open for the international observers/ delegates who are willing to participate in the conference. Interested participants are requested to send their CV at info@bipss.org.bd for the sake of screening their eligibility by the Conference Management Committee. The Conference Management Committee will notify the prospective participants about their selection.
Registration
Registration is mandatory to participate in the conference once approved by the Conference Management Committee. The registration fee is US$ 500 which will cover the conference attendance, all conference materials and meals during the time of the conference.
Conference language
As it will be an international conference, participated by the delegations of a number of countries from diverse backgrounds, all the proceedings of the conference will be conducted in English.
Venue
The Conference will be organized at the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
