President BIPSS Major General Muniruzzaman (Retd) was invited by the United States Pacific Command to speak at a conference hosted in Hawaii titled “Pacific Environmental Security”. General Munir spoke on “Security Implications of Climate Change: Role of the Military” in which he highlighted major issues of Climate Change and International Security (CCIS) covering human security dimensions as well as hard security dimensions of climate change. The presentation especially touched upon issues relating to social fragmentation, resource competition, intra and inter-state conflict, state collapse and possibility of regional conflicts as a consequence of climate change. It may also be mentioned that BIPSS is engaged in extensive study and research on various aspects of security implications of climate change. General Muniruzzaman is also a member of International Military Advisory Council (IMAC) on Climate Change and Security.
